Let's get to the bottom of the jar. We know Jem is not your Mama's peanut butter –– it's raw, sprouted, organic, stone-ground almond / hazelnut / cashew butter that's vegan, gluten-free, and non-gmo. Let's answer some of  your questions.

There are several questions that come up more than others about Jem, and we're happy to answer them all. Here are the most frequently asked questions (FAQ's) about our Sprouted Nut Butters:

 

Q: Should I refrigerate Jem or store it in the pantry?

A: Either way you enjoy Jem best. Keeping Jem out on the counter, in the cupboards or pantry will keep it at room temperature and make it more fudge-like, especially the Hazelnut Raw Cacao Sprouted Hazelnut Spread. If you prefer to keep your Jem in the fridge, that's fine too! Either way, stir Jem Butters up with spoon or knife before digging in.

 

Q: What are the "white-ish gray splotches” inside my jar of Hazelnut Cacao Butter?
A: What has happened to your jar is due to separation with the fats and oils from temperature fluctuations. It is completely natural and safe. When this happens to our jars at home, we stir until the texture is creamy once again. 

 

Q: Does Jem expire since it's raw?

A: Absolutely! In one year after it's opened. 

  

Q: What's the shelf life of Jem?

A: 1 year–– plenty of time to enjoy a jar of raw, organic, gluten-free, vegan, non-gmo, coconut sugar-sweetened, stone-ground, sprouted nut butter.

 

Q: Does storing Jem in the fridge prolong shelf life?

A: Slightly, but we don't advise it past 1 year. Also, we've never heard of someone not finishing a jar before a years' time! ;) 

 

Q: Should I stir Jem before eating? Or Store it up-side-down?

A: Sure! Sometimes our spreads will separate (if you live in a warm climate especially). You can even store Jem up-side-down. To learn more about stirring, we found this breakdown from Vegetarian Times where they suggest there are two camps of nut butters: the stir kind (less ingredients, usually just one -- the nut -- where natural oils will rise to the top) and the no-stir kind (nuts ground up with hydrogenated oils or trans fats found on the ingredient list). 

 

Q: Why is my Jar not filled to the top with Jem? 

A: The jars that we use are larger than the sizes we offer –– something we're working on –– so in actuality, given our sizes we sell (1oz, 6oz, and 16oz) are really over-filled. For example, a "1oz" jar is actually 1.25 ounces, the "6oz" jar is really a 6.13 ounce jar and a "16oz" is really a 16.15 ounce jar. Apologies for any confusion or feeling short-handed. We're working on new jars, lids, and labels but until then –– stir and enjoy the extra Jem!  

 

Q: Is your entire Factory Gluten Free? 

A: Yes! We are a Gluten Free facility and manufacture our Jem's in our own facility with no other products. 

 

Q: Is your entire Factory Peanut Free or just your butters? 

A: We are a Peanut Free facility - We manufacture our Jem’s in a peanut free facility.
