A lemon a day keeps the doctor away?
When it comes to the lemon water conversation, better yet, the body pH conversation -- we all have questions.
One thing to consider is that all nutritionists will suggest drinking lemon water, some even suggest adding salt or warming your water. Better yet, adding apple cider vinegar to your morning glass of warm lemon water. For now, let's set aside apple cider vinegar for another day and focus on lemons.
Admittedly, we're not diet people. Our CEO, Jennifer Moore is a nutritionist, and even she advocates for non-diets -- but rather, listening to your body, eating what your body is craving, and all in moderation (she also tells you how to sprout your nuts). We say this because it's interesting how almost every diet suggests lemon water: Candida diet, Kind Diet, Power Cleanse Movement, Master Cleanse and all suggest lemon water for fat-burning weight loss.
Known Benefits of Lemons
Thanks Wikipedia for those last three bullets.
Now the power cleanse movement is a very simple diet, living on the following for up to one week: lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and warm water as a daily tonic with no solid foods. Talk about a cleanse and not for the weak of stomach!
Your body pH is determined by what you put in your body. You can determine your pH by using pH strips, but also it's common sense that if you put more alkaline foods versus acidic foods into your body -- you'll have a less acidic pH rating. Side note: cancer is known to survive more easily in an acidic environment. That's reason enough to know what you're putting in your body, and how to create a more alkaline environment in your body every day.
In regards to a citrus fruit helping create a more alkaline body pH, here's how we understand it from our experience and online research: once the sodium and minerals from a lemon enter your body, the acids from the citrus are shifted into an alkaline by your bodies digestive system -- benefitting your overall health.
Ergo, lemon water.
